Resistance

RESIST'ANCEnoun
1. The act of resisting; opposition. resistance is passive, as that of a fixed body which interrupts the passage of a moving body; or active, as in the exertion of force to stop, repel or defeat progress or designs.
2. The quality of not yielding to force or external impression; that power of a body which acts in opposition to the impulse or pressure of another, or which prevents the effect of another power; as the resistance of a ball which receives the force of another; the resistance of wood to a cutting instrument; the resistance of air to the motion of a cannon ball, or of water to the motion of a ship

SCRIPTURE:

Alma 24:22

  • Book of Mormon
And thus without meeting any resistance, they did slay a thousand and five of them; and we know that they are blessed, for they have gone to dwell with their God

QUOTES:

Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.
What is needed, rather than running away or controlling or suppressing or any other resistance, is understanding fear; that means, watch it, learn about it, come directly into contact with it. We are to learn about fear, not how to escape from it.
Jiddu Krishnamurti
The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions that I wish it to be always kept alive.

Art begins with resistance - at the point where resistance is overcome. No human masterpiece has ever been created without great labor.
Andre Gide
The history of liberty is a history of resistance.
Woodrow Wilson
You don't argue with a four-year old about why he shouldn't eat candy for dinner. You don't punch a mentally handicapped guy even if he punches you first. And you don't argue when a women tells you she's only making 80 cents to your dollar. It's the path of least resistance. You save your energy for more important battles. :)
Scott Adams
Resistance is thought transformed into feeling. Change the thought that creates the resistance, and there is no more resistance.
Robert Conklin

PERSONAL DEFINITION:

I think resistance means holding back. When you resist something, you hold it back, or block it in some way.
I think resistance can be good as long as you don't take it as far as stubbornness, because you can resist temptations and fear, but when you start resisting obedience, then that's when you start becoming stubborn and you have less freedom. :)

*Also when you resist something, its not like that thing is going to dissapear, you are just using your agency to choose not to be a part of it. :)

Quotes:

It's human nature to gripe, but I'm going ahead and doing the best I can.
Elvis Presley

PERSONAL DEFINITION:
I think that to 'gripe' means to cling, or to clutch really tightly, or grab hold of.

I think griping is a greedy, if not almost vicious way of getting what you want.
In an application sense, when we gripe, we fix our minds to something, and we squeeze it, and hold on with stubbornness and don't let go, then we can be so good at getting what we want, and we can decieve our selves too.
Sometimes when we want something bad enough, we can trick our minds into thinking its right, and we can become very selfish and stubborn and fixed to our cause, which will cause ignorence and a lot of fear and anxiety about getting what you want all the time.
It's probably better to trust the Lord and his Justice and Mercy and have Him be your strength instead of all the things you want to gripe at.

Religious liberty is the first freedom in our Constitution. And whether the cause is justice for the persecuted, compassion for the needy and the sick, or mercy for the child waiting to be born, there is no greater force for good in the nation than Christian conscience in action.
-Mitt Romney

PERSONAL DEFINITION:
I think mercy is compassion and pity and the willingness to sacrifice something of yourself just for the sake of others. Sometimes it even means giving people better than what they deserve.

Why do we need both Justice and Mercy then? If they are like complete opposites?
Well, first of all, without Justice there would be no Mercy, and vice versa.
Because if there were no law to abide and make sure to be kept, there would be no need for Mercy and forgiveness if that law or rule Wasn't kept.
We, as sinnimng souls of the world, need mercy. Without it, and without Christ's atonement, we would all be doomed.
Also, we need justice so that we can try to abide standard and gain the happiness brought by keeping those laws or standards.
