Edify

Just started VG again! So exciting! Here's my first word study of the year:

edify

ED'IFY, v.t. [L. oedifico; oedes, a house, and facio, to make.]
1. To build, in a literal sense. [Not now used.]
2. To instruct and improve the mind in knowledge generally, and particularly in moral and religious knowledge, in faith and holiness.
Edify one another. 1 Thess.5.
3. To teach or persuade. [Not used.]

Improving the mind.

Thessalonians
11 Wherefore acomfort yourselves together, and bedify one another, even as also ye do.

D&C 50:23

  • Doctrine and Covenants
And that which doth not edify is not of God, and is darkness.

D&C 84:106

  • Doctrine and Covenants
And if any man among you be strong in the Spirit, let him take with him him that is weak, that he may be edified in all meekness, that he may become strong also.

D&C 84:106

  • Doctrine and Covenants
And if any man among you be strong in the Spirit, let him take with him him that is weak, that he may be edified in all meekness, that he may become strong also.

Romans 14:19

  • New Testament
Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.
(There didn't seem to be any good quotes about edification, so I figured that scriptures were pretty much quotes too.)

Here's my personal definition:
I think to edify, means to build up, or make better in a good way.
To leave the place better than you found it.
To be a light of Christ.
I think that if we are edified, than we have a lot of Christ like qualities, including humility.
It's interesting how much we can grow bigger, by thinking ourselves as smaller.
That's edification.
