“We hope we can help our young men and young women to realize, even sooner than they do now, that they need to make certain decisions only once. … We can push some things away from us once and have done with them! We can make a single decision about certain things that we will incorporate in our lives and then make them ours—without having to brood and redecide a hundred times what it is we will do and what we will not do.
“… My young brothers, if you have not done so yet, decide to decide!” ~Spencer W. Kimball

"Decide to work. Work is necessary if you are to reach your goal

...decide to believe. Believe in God. Believe in yourself. Believe that God is very interested in you as an individual, that he is anxious for you to succeed. He has provided in the gospel of his Son Jesus Christ the sure pattern for ultimate success.

Decide to make decisions about certain things once—those things will push from you that might otherwise destroy you—and decide about other things that you will incorporate into your life, things that will bring you eternal happiness. Decide to set goals which are consistent with your divine destiny. Decide to believe in God, who created you. Decide to believe in yourself, that you truly can reach goals—your goals. Decide to work. You can be successful in any righteous endeavor when you are willing to work under the guiding hand of the Lord.

May we all make our decisions in the favorable light of the gospel of Jesus Christ"
 ~Rex D. Pinegar

PERSONAL DEFINITION:
I think to decide means to make a choice. To commit to a choice, and then go forward with it.
To truly decide, I think we must take action on our resolve, whatever it is.
If we really want to accomplish anything, we first have to decide to do it.
I believe there is great wisdom in deciding beforehand, what your standards are so that you don't even have to be shaken when something arises that could cause you to go astray.
Decide is a very strong word. I think true decision is immovable.
It is my hope to make immovable decisions regarding where I stand in my beliefs. In fact, I already have! :)

45 And acharity suffereth long, and is bkind, and cenvieth not, and is not puffed up, seeketh not her own, is not easily dprovoked, thinketh no evil, and rejoiceth not in iniquity but rejoiceth in the truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
46 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, if ye have not charity, ye are nothing, for charity never faileth. Wherefore, cleave unto charity, which is the greatest of all, for all things must fail—

“He who wished to secure the good of others,
Has already secured his own.”

Confucius

“If you haven't any charity in your heart,
You have the worst kind of heart trouble.”

Mahatma Gandhi

"Every charitable act is a stepping stone towards heaven."
Henry Ward Beecher

. We all work at feeling joy and finding peace. One of our greatest tools in the process is charity.
Elaine L. Jack

Charity is not a single act or something we give away but a state of being, a state of the heart, kind feelings that engender loving actions.

When we have charity, we are willing to serve and help others when it is inconvenient and with no thought of recognition or reciprocation. We don’t wait to be assigned to help, because it becomes our very nature. As we choose to be kind, caring, generous, patient, accepting, forgiving, inclusive, and selfless, we discover we are abounding in charity.
 Silva H. Allred

Charity is having patience with someone who has let us down. It is resisting the impulse to become offended easily. It is accepting weaknesses and shortcomings. It is accepting people as they truly are. It is looking beyond physical appearances to attributes that will not dim through time. It is resisting the impulse to categorize others.” 13
Thomas S. Monson

PERSONAL DEFINITION:

I think Charity is the pure love of Christ. In order for us to have charity, Christ must be at the center of our lives. It is only through Him that our hearts can be filled with that pure love. But before he can fill our hearts, we must open them up. We can do that by loving and serving God first (and serving His children in order to do so). We must also try to see others as divinity, and as children of God with true potential and worth. Then as we treat them as such, God will fill our hearts with more of that love, and it becomes a cycle of strengthening character, and building God's kingdom.
Charity is a way of being, and it is a process. When we fail, repentance and the atonement can repair us again. For true charity can really only come from the Lord. To have that gift, we must ask Him for it, and then do what He asks of us.

Focus

Focus
FO'CUSnoun plural focuses, or foci. [Latin focus a fire, the hearth.]
1. In optics, a point in which any number of rays of light meet, after being reflected or refracted; as the focus of a lens.
2. In geometry and conic sections, a certain point in the parabola, ellipsis and hyperbola, where rays reflected from all parts of these curves, concur or meet.
The focus of an ellipsis, is a point towards each end of the longer axis, from which two right lines drawn to any point in the circumference, shall together be equal to the longer axis.
The focus of a parabola, is a point in the axis within the figure, and distant from the vertex by the fourth part of the parameter.
The focus of a hyperbola, is a point in the principal axis, within the opposite hyperbolas, from which if any two lines are drawn, meeting in either of the opposite hyperbolas, the difference will be equal to the principal axis.
3. A central point; point of concentration
SCRIPTURES:
Two men formed a partnership. They built a small shed beside a busy road. They obtained a truck and drove it to a farmer’s field, where they purchased a truckload of melons for a dollar a melon. They drove the loaded truck to their shed by the road, where they sold their melons for a dollar a melon. They drove back to the farmer’s field and bought another truckload of melons for a dollar a melon. Transporting them to the roadside, they again sold them for a dollar a melon. As they drove back toward the farmer’s field to get another load, one partner said to the other, “We’re not making much money on this business, are we?” “No, we’re not,” his partner replied. “Do you think we need a bigger truck?”
We don’t need a bigger truckload of information, either. Like the two partners in my story, our biggest need is a clearer focus on how we should value and use what we already have.
~Dallin H.Oaks
Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. (2 Tim. 3:7).

Feast upon the words of Christ; for behold, the words of Christ will tell you all things what ye should do” (2 Ne. 32:3). That is focus. Nephi also said that as he taught from the scriptures, “I did liken all scriptures unto us, that it might be for our profit and learning” (1 Ne. 19:23). That is personal application.

Each of us should be careful that the current flood of information does not occupy our time so completely that we cannot focus on and hear and heed the still, small voice that is available to guide each of us with our own challenges

The ultimate Latter-day Saint priorities are twofold: First, we seek to understand our relationship to God the Eternal Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, and to secure that relationship by obtaining their saving ordinances and by keeping our personal covenants. Second, we seek to understand our relationship to our family members and to secure those relationships by the ordinances of the temple and by keeping the covenants we make in that holy place. These relationships, secured in the way I have explained, provide eternal blessings available in no other way. No combination of science, success, property, pride, prominence, or power can provide these eternal blessings!

PERSONAL DEFINITION:
We are always focused on one thing or another. It is a conscious choice to decide what that focus is.
Priorities and focus are interlocked. Priorities are what we should choose to put our focus on. And we should choose the right priorities.
We know when our priorities are centered around God, and doing his will, and then we put our focus on that and act accordingly, we will live life to its fullest.

Upright

upright

UPRIGHT, a. upri'te or up'rite. [up and right. This word is marked in books with the accent on the first syllable. But it is frequently pronounced with the accent on the second, and the accent on the first syllable of its derivatives is inadmissible.]

1. Erect; perpendicular to the plane of the horizon; as an upright tree; an upright post. Among mechanics, plumb.
2. Erected; pricked up; shooting directly from the body.

With chatt'ring teeth and bristling hair upright.
3. Honest; just; adhering to rectitude in all social intercourse; not deviating from correct moral principles; as an upright man. Job. 1.
4. Conformable to moral rectitude.
Conscience rewards upright conduct with pleasure.

Proverbs 2:21

  • Old Testament
For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.

2 Samuel 22:26

  • Old Testament

  • Old Testament

Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

  • Old Testament

Psalms 64:10

  • Old Testament
The righteous shall be glad in the Lord, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.

rectitude

REC'TITUDE, n. [L. rectus, right, straight.]

  • In morality, rightness of principle or practice; uprightness of mind; exact conformity to truth, or to the rules prescribed for moral conduct, either by divine or human laws. Rectitude of mind is the disposition to act in conformity to any known standard of right, truth or justice; rectitude of conduct is the actual conformity to such standard. Perfect rectitude belongs only to the Supreme Being. The more nearly the rectitude of men approaches to the standard of the divine law, the more exalted and dignified is their character. Want of rectitude is not only sinful, but debasing.
  • There is a sublimity in conscious rectitude - in comparison with which the treasures of earth are not worthnaming.
  •
  •
  •
  •                                                                                                                                                        PERSONAL DEFINITION:   think to be upright, means to be morally correct and genuinely righteous. The upright in heart have many promised blessings. It says that the upright in heart can be glad in the Lord. If you have an upright heart, you are in the right and your desires are pure and so you can rejoice in the gospel because as you live it, you are constantly reminded of the peace that comes with that. To be glad IN the Lord is a form of humility, because you are giving the credit to him. You rejoice because of His goodness.
So when you are upright in heart, you trust God and rejoice in Him for your blessings that He gives you as you make actions that are upright. Then you can confidently stand upright knowing that your intentions are pure, therefore making your actions upright.                                                                    So I guess the pattern is:
  • Upright heart
  • Upright actions
  • Rejoice in the Lord for all the blessings that come from living upright.

  •  The gospel is the most truly upright (morally and principally correct) doctrine, so if your heart's desire is to live that, you have an upright heart. Then once you act on it, all your actions will be upright.

    • Pearl of Great Price
    And I, God, said: Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven, to divide the day from the night, and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and for years;

    QUOTES:

It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences.

Grief can take care if itself, but to get the full value of a joy you must have somebody to divide it with.

Divide each difficulty into as many parts as is feasible and necessary to resolve it.

As I was researching this word Divide, I kept finding a reoccurring theme that Division or separation can bring unity. I thought to myself- Wait! That doesn't make any sense.
    But it does...
Let's take two people to represent the context of the word divide. Those two people are you, and someone else. Now, if you are divided in opinion, a choice springs up. You can choose to become unified by lovingly receiving both viewpoints, or you can become disordered and split by selfishly arguing.
So the separateness can bring unity if it is acted upon with love.

The law of nature revolves around becoming whole. We want to become whole. (If we are in line with Nature- or God's law). But it often takes Division to accomplish that wholeness or unity.

But what if a house divided against itself cannot stand?
I think the key word in the sentence before is itself. When we aren't aligned with our own true purpose, we can't have unity with others. And the only way to be wholly aligned with our own true purpose is through the atonement. Even then, we need a separate being to make us whole.
    Division equals Unity.
    Here are some examples:
God had to separate us from Him, by sending us to this earth, so that we could be in a state where we could progress and return to Him being more complete and having more knowledge.

It takes male and female to create a human being.

The human body is made up of separate pairs. (Two eyes, ears, arms, legs, feet)

There are a lot of examples in nature where you need divided or separate sources to achieve a goal or unity.

HEART, n. [L. cor, cordis, and allied to Eng.core, or named from motion, pulsation.]

    1. A muscular viscus, which is the primary organ of the blood's motion in an animal body, situated in the thorax. From this organ all the arteries arise, and in it all the veins terminate. Sometimes heart is used for the will, or determined purpose.

To take to heart, to be much affected; also, to be zealous, ardent or solicitous about a thing; to have concern.
To lay to heart, is used nearly in the sense of the foregoing.

To set the heart at rest, to make one's self quiet; to be tranquil or easy in mind.
To find in the heart, to be willing or disposed.
I find it in my heart to ask your pardon.
For my heart, for tenderness or affection.
I could not for my heart refuse his request.
Or, this phrase may signify, for my life; if my life was at stake.
I could not get him for my heart to do it.

    Heart

A symbol of the mind and will of man and the figurative source of all emotions and feelings

    Luke 6:45

    • New Testament
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

    Ezekiel 36:26

    • Old Testament
A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stonyheart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

    Proverbs 23:15

    • Old Testament
My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine

    QUOTES:
The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.

Sometimes the heart sees what is invisible to the eye.
In the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed.

When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy. When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.

Prayer is not asking. It is a longing of the soul. It is daily admission of one's weakness. It is better in prayer to have a heart without words than words without a heart.

Wherever you go, go with all your heart.

The greatest test of courage on earth is to bear defeat without losing heart.

Let my soul smile through my heart and my heart smile through my eyes, that I may scatter rich smiles in sad hearts. ~Paramahansa Yogananda

.                                                                       PERSONAL DEFINITION: I think the heart is the main center point of our body. Everything thing else focuses, revolves around, and depends on its functioning. It's a representation of a place where we experinace emotions and feelings- and since our actions are results of our feelings- it is important that we strive to have a pure, and broken heart. Broken in the sense that we are humble and open to His will, and Pure in the sense that we are using His atonement to make us whole. I like to imigine it like this: A heart with a whole bunch of cracks and crevises, and God's love and mercy pouring into the cracks like glue to make it whole.

Kingdom of God or Kingdom of Heaven

The kingdom of God on earth is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (D&C 65). The purpose of the Church is to prepare its members to live forever in the celestial kingdom or kingdom of heaven. However, the scriptures sometimes call the Church the kingdom of heaven, meaning that the Church is the kingdom of heaven on earth.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the kingdom of God on the earth, but it is at present limited to an ecclesiastical kingdom. During the Millennium, the kingdom of God will be both political and ecclesiastical.

    QUOTES:
    (your four minuets)

Dear friends, you are in the midst of an exhilarating journey. In some ways, you are racing down the half-pipe or sled track, and it can be challenging to perform each element or navigate each turn along the way. But remember, you’ve prepared for this for millennia. This is your moment to perform. This is your four minutes! The time is now!

You have the Savior of the world on your side. If you seek His help and follow His directions, how can you fail?

Perhaps you’re aware of things in your life that are threatening to slow or stop your spiritual progress. If so, follow this scriptural counsel: “Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.”9

Now, you may be thinking to yourself, “I already blew it. My four minutes are already a disaster. I may as well give up.” If so, stop thinking that, and never think it again. The miracle of the Atonement can make up for imperfections in our performance

“… It is never too late so long as the Master … says there is time. … Don’t delay.”10

Remember, you are not alone. The Savior has promised that He will not leave you comfortless.11 You also have family, friends, and leaders who are cheering you on.

(United in Building the Kingdom -L. Tom Perry):

We see the unity that comes from a faith in God and a desire to build His kingdom.

*To tear down kingdom -seek worldly riches (Instead of the Kingdom of God) and be prideful; think you are better than others

Now, we see that often this turning away from the Lord comes with prosperity. Those who are more prosperous can become filled with pride, and they look down on their brothers and sisters who have less, thinking them inferior. Although Jacob does not say it, this process can also work the other way. Those who are less fortunate begin to feel deprived. They become consumed by what they do not have, blaming others for their predicament and blaming the Lord. They, also, turn their hearts away from Him.
    *BOTH forms of pride

*Use your prosperity for Good = building kingdom

So often it is the order of things that is fundamental in the Lord’s instructions to us. The Lord is not telling us that we should not be prosperous. This would be inconsistent with the many records we have of Him blessing His people with prosperity. But He is telling us that we should seek prosperity only after we have sought and found Him. Then, because our hearts are right, because we love Him first and foremost, we will choose to invest the riches we obtain in building His kingdom.

*The order is important. Seek God first, blessing will come, and since our hearts are in the right place, we can use those gifts to expand God's kingdom even more.

Is the order of things right in our own lives? Are we investing, first and foremost, in the things that are eternal in nature? Do we have an eternal perspective? Or have we fallen into the trap of investing in the things of this world first and then forgetting the Lord?

*To build kingdom, you must lay treasures in heaven
*It takes more than one person to build up the kingdom-we must trust one another.
What this testifies to me is that we can tell whether or not we put the kingdom of God first by looking at how we treat our brothers and sisters in the Church. Is there a special bond uniting us? Is there an absence of envy and backbiting? Do we rejoice in the success of a brother or sister as much as in our own? Do we share our substance so that all may be rich like unto us? Ultimately, are we our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers?
*Where much is given, much is expected, and we have been very blessed.

As we engage in the work of the Lord, He will increase our capacity as we increase our desire.
*We have to keep doing his will, and desiring to do His will, and He will make us capable.

We will pull closer together as a people engaged in a common effort. Through sacrifices we make one for another and for Him, we will realize our potential as His children and prepare the way for His eventual, glorious return.

*Seeking for ways to serve others, and doing so helps us realize our true potential and creates unity so we can prepare for His return.

    PERSONAL DEFINITION:
I believe Kingdom, means a domain, or land of ownership. To truly be 'owners' of a Kingdom, we have to have worked on it.
The Earth is part of God's Kingdom, because He created it. We are also part of His Kingdom, because He created us, and when we work on building those around us, we are expanding HIS Kingdom.
We can do that by using the gifts God has given us, and work on obtaining more gifts of the spirit. We must also seek to have faith, hope, and charity because when we trust, love, and look forward to and be intent upon building His Kingdom, our ability will grow and we can build the kingdom even more, because when we trust in God's will, He can trust in us to accomplish that will.

    QUOTES:
“If you're serious about sanctification, you can expect to experience heart-wrenching moments that try your faith, your endurance, and your patience.”
Sheri L. Dew, If Life Were Easy, It Wouldn't Be Hard: And Other Reassuring Truths

“To be in Christ -- that is redemption; but for Christ to be in you -- that is sanctification!”
    W. Ian Thomas

    PERSONAL DEFINITION:
I think the word Sanctify has a big meaning. It means to 'set apart from' or 'cleanse of' or 'purify'.
I've learned that we, as human beings are not naturally clean or worthy. We needed, and do need Christ as our ultimate source of sanctification.
We come closer to Christ as we are refined by trials and tests of this mortal life.
    Sanctification strengthens us.
The Grace of God can purify us in a way that makes us our TRUE fully sanctified selves again.
And when we are living true to that (Our real worthy selves) then we will be serving, living, opening and lighting new ways for others, and ourselves, to be even more sanctified.
I think also think, that another key to being sanctified comes when we set ourselves apart from the world and stand in holy places.
    Sanctification also comes with LOVE.
When we love, and are willing to serve, than God can trust us with more power, which can only come if we are worthy and sanctified.
