Creature.

I will now do another word study, this time on the word "Creature". I  was reading some of Genesis in the Bible, and I decided that this was a good word to study for what I was reading. ^_^

*(   mean my thoughts.

Webster's 1828 dic:

CREATURE, n.

1. That which is created; every being besides the Creator, or every thing not self-existent. The sun, moon and stars; the earth, animals, plants, light, darkness, air, water, &c., are the creatures of God.
2. In a restricted sense, an animal of any kind; a living being; a beast. In a more restricted sense, man. Thus we say, he was in trouble and no creature was present to aid him.
(This is mostly what it means in Genesis)
3. A human being, in contempt; as an idle creature; a poor creature; what a creature!
4. With words of endearment, it denotes a human being beloved; as a pretty creature; a sweet creature.
5. That which is produced, formed or imagined; as a creature of the imagination.
6. A person who owes his rise and fortune to another; one who is made to be what he is.
Great princes thus, when favorites they raise, to justify their grace, their creatures praise.
7. A dependent; a person who is subject to the will or influence of another.

Scriptures:

  • Mosiah 27:26

26 And thus they become new creatures; and unless they do this, they can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God.
  • Romans 8:19
  • 19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

  • Romans 8:20-21

20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
*(Don't subject yourself to vanity, because someone else has had the same hope in vanity, but rather deliver up that corruption and come unto Christ to have freedom and Liberty.)
  • 4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: *(I really liked this ones that talked about being thankful for every creature.)
  • Mark 16:15

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. *( We all are mere creatures compared to God, and so He wants us to preach to everyone, so they can become more like Him.)

    Quotes:

Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty." ~Albert Einstein
"Compassion, in which all ethics must take root, can only attain its full breadth and depth if it embraces all living creatures and does not limit itself to mankind." ~Albert Schweitzer
*(I love how both these are similar, on how they talk about embracing living creatures, and I think it means to say, that we should be thankful and appreciate all creatures, and explore, and not limit ourselves within our own mind, but take the time to act on God's will which is to study His creations and creatures.)
"If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning: just as, if there were no light in the universe and therefore no creatures with eyes, we should never know it was dark. Dark would be without meaning." ~C.S. Lewis

    My Personal Definition:
I actually love animals and I love to draw them too. I love to capture their innocence, their nobility, their dignity, or what ever the animal betrays to me. I know that God created them, and saw they were good, and so we can learn many life lessons from them. I also know we are creatures in our own way too. We are creatures striving to be more like God. (Or at least should be. ^_^ I know I still need to work on that!) But we are all made by Him, and we should keep on listening to what He has to say to us, wether it be through The Holy Ghost, the scriptures, Patterns in nature, or living creatures, and many other ways, so that we can become our best, for God wants the Best for us.
